Revelation 3

The Dead Church

1 “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write,‘These things says He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. 2 Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. 3 Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. 4 You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. 5 He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. 6 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’

During a period in my life I went through spiritual rebellion. It was during my college years. I was enjoying the plesure of this world but in reality I should of shown Christ through my life. Yes, I did study and worked a lot to get good grades and even went to church but when some weekends came, my mind was not thinking about the Lord and my actions were not Christ like. Then I went home, some people who knew me before I went away to college said that I changed. That I was no longer the person they knew before I went to college.

During those years, I would have fit comfortably as a member of the First Church of Sardis (Revelation 3:1-6). My problem, like theirs, I thought I was the person I used to be (I even went to church some Sundays). Even though God gave me a wonderful testimony I still turned my back on Him for a little while. A God who raised me from the dead, but instead of me showing gratitude and praise I wanted to stay asleep.

How about you? Are you asleep, turned your back on Him or spriritually dead? Or are you ready for His next step? Are you watchful and strengthen in the things which remain?

Wake up, Hold Fast and Repent!
The Lord has told us to lay down our heavy burdens at His feet, repent, come back to Him and live in Him.
