11-11-2009 - Sometimes all we need is rest.

while he himself (Elijah) went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors." Then he lay down under the tree and fell asleep.
All at once an angel touched him and said, "Get up and eat." He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.
The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (1 Kings 19:4-8)
Ever felt that you are doing too much??
Ever felt that all you want to do is relax, but a million things just keep
on coming to your mind??
Last night I was listening to a radio program that Joyce Meyers was speaking, and she was sharing that when she was new in the ministry, she was doing the ministry till all hours in the night, and then she would go to sleep without having the time to relax. As time went on, she started disliking what she was doing. She quoted “I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.”
Sometimes I felt like that, I know other people who have felt like that as well. As I was thinking, maybe in our American Culture, we are always thinking “What’s next in life, what is the next best thing to do?” When I went to Brazil in 2006, I realized that everyone would take an hour to relax during the day.
Maybe the next best thing to do is relax… Yes, there are always things to be done but in life there will always be business to be handled, events to be taken take of, things to be done; but do we feel that having a little time to our selves is
important also.
In this passage, Elijah was done; finished; wanted to stop running… He had “enough”. How many times we say that we are done… tired of running around? That’s the best time to say to yourself, “I need to relax.” If Elijah needed to relax and the angel of the Lord brought him food to relax… definitely, God wants us to be stress-free, especially if we are doing what God wants us to do in our lives.
So, if you are tired, exhausted, or weary… take a little time to yourself, or spend some time with God, see what he would like for you to do next.
In His love,
