Sin and a God of Light
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive
us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

The Christians in Antioch sent Paul and Barnabus off on a preaching tour. Their task was not only to share the good news of Jesus, but to help new Christians meet and grow in their new found relationship with God. They preached first to a Jewish audience and later to the Gentiles. These groups of Christians needed encouragement, advice, teaching and sometimes just a little push in the
right direction!

Sometimes Christians struggle to know if they have truly been forgiven of their sins. Some Christians know the joy of sins forgiven, the fact that their sin need never again cut them off from God; however, sin still remains a problem in our
everyday lives.

Take this time and read 1 John 1:5 - 2:17.

What evidence do you find for the assertion that sin remains a problem for Christians? Also, take moment to identify specific areas which you need to bring before God now.

John here is not denying the possibility of sin in the Christian, but he is not asserting its impossibility either. John is arguing rather the incongruity of sin in the Christian. (John Stott, Tyndale New Testament Commentary on The Letters of John) The Christian life is a process of becoming more and more like Christ. This process will not be complete until we see Christ face to face.

Thank God that we can find forgiveness for all our sins.

In His Love,
Justin Varghese
