Aroma of Christ
15For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those
who are
being saved and those who are perishing.
(2 Corinthians 2:15 - New International Version)

Frequently we see kids try on their used clothes because they do not have anything else to wear. When this is done, they try to cover up the bad odor from their used clothes by spraying on some kind of cologne or perfume. The smell can come from a long day of working out, playing a sport or the simple fact that they did not washed their clothes in weeks. Either way, it should be noted that they are trying to disguise the bad odor on the clothes with something that might smell good.
In chapter 2 of Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians we see that Paul makes a visit to Toras and Macedonia. Paul’s spirit was not at rest and wanted to know the welfare of Titus and the church of Corinth. He thanked God for giving him the opportunity to be able to spread the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ everywhere in that region.
“Aroma” in verse 15 is referred to as, “a sacrifice pleasing to God”. As Paul was teaching and sharing the gospel to the people of Corinth, we can see how he was able to picture Christ as the primary sacrifice for us, so that his spirit may live in us, and we may continue to spread his “aroma” onto others who are
still in the darkness.
Too often in our lives we put on the aroma of the devil, which is sin. There are many of us who have come to a point in our lives where we became so comfortable with our sin that we learned how to cover it up. Sometimes this means that we put it off to the side temporarily. In doing this, we think we are fooling others and God, when in fact, we are only fooling ourselves.
The reality is that none of us can ever fully cover up our sin or handle it on our own. Instead we need to bring our sins to the feet of the cross, knowing that Christ has already made the ultimate sacrifice for us, so that we can carry on his aroma and have everlasting life.
Remember that Christ’s death on the cross triumphed over the devil and death so that we may be able to put on the aroma of Christ which can only bring purity and holiness in our life.
In His Love,
