Worth the Wait

32 “ Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are those who keep my ways.
33 Hear instruction and be wise, And do not disdain it. 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors.
(Proverbs 8:32-34, New King James Version)

Waiting is probably one of the hardest things that Christians are called to do.  Especially when something is so close to our reach, we think “Let’s do it so we can get on with our lives.”  But God hears us and says “Not yet, you have found my heart but wait a while.”  He will let us know when it is the right time.

God always has a very clear reason for telling us to wait and it is to our benefit.  Although it is difficult watching and waiting, it is always essential in our lives… Walking in obedience to God is always better than not listening to Him and having a life empty of His blessings.

It is difficult to wait upon the Lord but acting on our accord, can bring many consequences.  First when we don’t wait, we get out of His will.  Second, we can put a hindrance on God’s plan for our lives.  Third, we can bring pain and suffering upon others and ourselves.  Failing to wait upon the Lord can cost us spiritually, financially, emotionally and relationally.

We can see this in many examples in the bible:

  • When we go into the life of Jonah; he failed to listen to God at first.  He tried to run the other way, got on a boat but was thrown off because of his disobedience.  He was swallowed by a great fish and for three
days stayed in the fish’s belly.
  • Before Israel found their land of Milk and Honey, the whole nation had to wait 40 years wandering aimlessly in the desert all because of the lack of obedience to the Lord.

One of the primary reasons people step out of God’s will and out of fellowship with the Lord is that they make the wrong decisions because they are not listening, thus never knowing God’s timing.

As we are listening, we should stand in silence.  In Psalm 62 says, “I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him… Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.” (Psalm 62:1, 5-6 NLT)

God has a definite plan for your life but stop and ask yourself:
Am I Being Silent?  Am I Listening to God?

In Christ’s Love,
